not for everyone!
The Ojo is an interface between nearby urban areas, like Espanola, Ojo Caliente, and a number of small tract subdivisions in the valley. US 285 runs through the Ojo valley too making it accessible, however, outside of the Ojo Caliente Spa, there is NO PUBLIC access along the entire length of the 20 mile long river. Because of this, many people who have spent their entire lives in New Mexico don’t know it exists!
About a half mile of the river flows through The Ojo. Our Bosque, the area in the plain of the river, has been undergoing loving restoration for the fifteen years that we have been here. Removal of russian olive, a prickly over achieving and out competing tree, is ongoing with large areas of The Ojo now RO free! We are wildlife friendly and do not allow pets and do not keep livestock on the property.

people and the Ojo
The Bosque section of the land is relatively gentle, flat and fairly lush with lots of meadow and cottonwood forest. The river defines The Ojo and one is rarely far from its banks. This is not a party destination but a place where people can find solitude not only on our land but in the surrounding public lands as well, which are spectacular. Perhaps a hundred species or more of birds pass through annually and maybe half that amount are residents. The Ojo is a destination for many animals who need the river for survival, and we have our share of reptiles and frogs too. This is a place where people can meet with purpose and intent. When groups stay here they are glamping more than camping!
